“The Narrow Door”
Dear Friends,
Grace and peace to you from our Lord Jesus Christ.
As we journey through life, we often find ourselves wondering about our place in God’s kingdom. In Luke 13, Jesus is asked, “Lord, will those who are saved be few?” Rather than giving a direct answer about numbers, Jesus responds with a powerful metaphor: “Strive to enter through the narrow door.”
What does this narrow door represent? It’s not about physical size or human effort. The door is narrow because it requires something specific – faith in Christ alone. Many will seek to enter by other means – good works, religious observance, or personal merit – but Jesus makes it clear that these paths will not succeed.
The paradox is beautiful: “Some are last who will be first, and some are first who will be last.” Jesus, who rightfully held first place in heaven, willingly became last – suffering and dying on the cross. Because of this sacrifice, we who deserve to be last because of our sin can now be welcomed as first in God’s kingdom.
When we struggle with doubt or find the way difficult, remember these words of faith: “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief.” The door may seem narrow, but Christ has opened it wide through His grace.
This week, reflect on these questions:
- Where am I trying to earn my way into God’s kingdom rather than receiving it as a gift?
- How can I respond to Christ’s sacrifice with gratitude rather than striving?
- In what areas do I need to pray, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief”?
Resting in His grace,
