Pastor Lee

As a parish pastor, my greatest joy comes from seeing the living Word of God reassure people of His complete and unconditional love and forgiveness. Since August 24, 1997, I’ve served as a called and ordained minister, blessed to work with 14 congregations (four with elementary schools between 150 – 450 students) across six districts from the East Coast and Midwest to California. Over the years, the Lord has given me rich experience in pastoral care, parish administration, congregational stewardship, and team building, as well as leadership roles helping congregations navigate pastoral and principal transitions, grief, trauma, conflict, and new missional and visionary directions. I hold a Doctor of Ministry in missional leadership and congregational stewardship from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, MO, where I developed a ministry mapping tool to help churches, schools, and nonprofits align their work for greater Gospel impact and financial health. While at Concordia Theological Seminary in Ft. Wayne, IN, I also trained at the U.S. Naval Chaplain’s Candidate School, graduating from the Chaplain’s School in Newport, RI at the War College. My wife, Anne, grew up in Papua New Guinea, and together we’ve been blessed with five adult children, all born in California. Anne is an in-house and private practice attorney with a Juris Doctor from Western Michigan University-Cooley Law School and a Bachelor of Arts in Broadcast Communication & Journalism from Purdue University.

THE JOURNEY TOGETHER IN MINISTRY!

Family Convocation, Black Clergy Caucus of the Lutheran Church, Austin, Texas, (2025).

Throughout our 31 years of marriage and 34 years in ministry, Anne and I have come to realize that it is the loving, faithful, kind, gentle, hopeful, and devoted believers in each congregation who have truly ministered to us. They embraced our five children and surrounded us with God’s grace and forgiveness. As we reflect on the numerous churches and institutions listed below, where we have been blessed to serve by God’s grace, we are reminded of Paul’s words to the Romans: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!” (Romans 10:15)

OIKONOMIA TEAM BUILDING RETREATS

Oikonomia Team Building Retreat, Zion Lutheran Church & School, Anaheim, CA, (2024).

Team retreats play a vital role in rejuvenating church and school leaders, enabling them to fully embrace the abundant grace of God! We envision lively, gospel-centered churches and schools that are spiritually equipped, relationally connected, and financially thriving, supported by dynamic ministry teams.

PROFESSIONAL, MINISTERIAL & ACADEMIC AFFILIATIONS

Graduating U.S. Navy Chaplain School, (1997).

FAMILY

The Bible teaches that a family is truly blessed to have children, and we wholeheartedly agree. Our eldest, Kyle, is now thirty and happily married to Reychelle (the elder). Kelsey is in her final year of medical school in Sydney, Australia. Justin is gearing up for engineering school at Michigan State University. Rachel (the younger) is a certified emergency medical technician, and Katie has just graduated from high school!

INTERESTS & HOBBIES

I cherish spending quality time with my family and church community while pursuing my passions for research and writing on missional leadership and congregational stewardship. I also enjoy distance running, including participating in the Boston Marathon (BQ, 3:13:44.8 at age 50; Average Pace: 7:24), and managing a 12-acre hobby farm in Michigan.

PASTORAL CARE

“My greatest joy as a Pastor is comforting God’s People.”

“The honest pastoral candidate knows that the office, not he himself, should be on a pedestal.”

(Pastoral Theology, CPH, 1990.)

Our pastor(s) find their greatest pastoral joy in ministry in comforting God’s people with the assurance of the Gospel. “Only through the Gospel are people brought into a new, saving, living relationship with God. Only through faith in Christ Jesus and his Word are ultimate answers found, sins forgiven, eschatological therapy received, eternal destiny assured, anxieties relieved, despair turned to hope, and selfishness turned to service. Only through the Gospel can the church come close to being the salt, the light, and the leaven it is intended to be (Matt. 5:13ff.; 13:33).”

PASTORAL SERVICES

Individual Confession & Absolution

Private confession-absolution may be the most important activity in the pastor’s role as Seelsorger (caretaker of souls). Private confession-absolution is nothing other than applying the full Gospel to one hurting soul.

Marriage Planning & The Wedding Service – The Wedding Planner

Plan for a life together and a wedding service. The Bible describes marriage as a gift from God, and it should not be entered into lightly. Pastor Lee provides several pre-marital sessions getting to know the couple. More importantly during these sessions he will provide resources for planning a Christian wedding and marriage.

 Visitation and Life Together

It is our Pastor(s) aim “To perform the functions of a pastor in an evangelical manner; to aid, counsel, and guide members [and visitors] of all ages and social conditions: to visit the sick and the dying; to admonish the indifferent and the erring….”

The Pastor Cares for the Family

One of Pastor Lee’s greatest joys in being a pastor is to pray for and encourage families. Pastor is available to attend any family gatherings to provide prayers or encouraging conversation.
