Ezekiel 34:1-20

The Future’s So Bright

Dear Friends,

Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

In our reading from Ezekiel 34:1-20, we encounter a powerful message of hope amidst despair. The prophet speaks to God’s people in exile, a time when their future seemed bleak and uncertain – not unlike many situations we face today.

I understand that the title of this devotional might seem disconnected from our current realities. With political turmoil, ongoing conflicts, and global migration challenges, how can we speak of brightness in our future?

Yet this is precisely the message Ezekiel delivers. In the midst of exile and abandonment, God makes an extraordinary promise: “I myself will search for my sheep and look after them” (Ezekiel 34:11). What comfort these words must have brought to those feeling forgotten and forsaken!

For Ezekiel and his hearers, God’s plan of salvation was breaking through the cloudy days of despair. The sun of redemptive grace was piercing through as God promised to care for His people in a direct and personal way.

This week, I invite you to reflect:

  • Where do you need God’s shepherding care in your life right now?
  • How might God be bringing light into your cloudy situations?
  • In what ways can you share this hope with others who are struggling?

Remember, our hope isn’t based on changing circumstances but on the unchanging character of our God who seeks, rescues, and restores.

Palisades, Strong in the Lord!
