Christmas Eve Candlelight Service Fills Sanctuary with Joy and Community

On Christmas Eve, Palisades Lutheran Church opened its doors to the community for a beautiful candlelight service filled with music, scripture, and celebration. Neighbors, families, and friends filled the sanctuary as we gathered to honor the true meaning of Christmas and celebrate the light of Christ coming into the world.

A Radiant Beginning

The service began with a rendition of “O Holy Night” led by our PLC staff members: Sandy Sonderling, Tricia Martin, Anne Lee, Coach Mike Martin, and Pastor Marty. Their voices filled the sanctuary with the timeless message of hope and redemption, setting a reverent tone for the evening.

Scripture and Sacred Moments

Throughout the service, members of our congregation shared powerful readings from Scripture, including the prophecy from Isaiah about Immanuel, the message of God’s love from 1 John, and the nativity account from Matthew. Children gathered around the altar near baby Jesus as Coach Mike shared a children’s message on gratitude, asking kids what they were thankful for—reminding us all of the importance of thankful hearts during this season.

Julie Burditt blessed us with a beautiful solo performance of “Mary, Did You Know?” Her voice captured the wonder and awe of the Christmas story.

Mary Knew!

Pastor Marty delivered an inspiring Christmas Eve message titled “Mary Knew!” that resonated deeply with all in attendance. He connected the timeless story of Christ’s birth to our lives today, exploring Mary’s faith and obedience in God’s plan.

The Light of Christ

One of the most moving moments of the evening came as candles were lit throughout the sanctuary. As Keith Collins led the lighting of the candles from the center aisle, the glow spread row by row, person to person—symbolizing Christ’s light spreading throughout the world. Together, we sang “Silent Night, Holy Night” by candlelight, a tradition that connects us to generations of believers who have celebrated this holy night.

Sweet Fellowship

Following the service, the community gathered for photos at the Christmas tree and then moved to the Fireside Room for our traditional Christmas Eve potluck. We enjoyed Christmas sweets and savories and warm conversations filled with gratitude. The fellowship extended the evening with the kind of connection and joy that makes the holiday season so special.

A Ministry of Many Hands

This beautiful service was made possible by the dedication of numerous volunteers, including our readers, ushers, acolytes, altar guild, and the team who provided refreshments. Special thanks to our professional musicians Gary Nesteruk, Marc Van Aken, and Ron Suffredini, as well as Jonathan Herrador for video and audio support.

Thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate the birth of our Savior. Events like these remind us that we are stronger and more joyful together in Christ.

We look forward to welcoming you to future events at PLC. Stay connected with us on Facebook and Instagram for upcoming announcements!
